Art of Sequencing
This yoga teacher and student training course offers 26 sessions that guide you in crafting meaningful, deliberate, and potent sequences for you to serve a diverse range of goals, class types, styles and levels. Tune up and refresh your teaching skills and expand your range in designing and teaching postures while diversifying your personal practice. Refill your “creative cup,” expand your teaching tool kit, refine familiar sequencing methods, and explore new sequencing approaches. This course is accredited as yoga teacher training & continuing education through Yoga Alliance and counts towards 20 hours of non-contact continuing education hours, which fulfills the entire 3-year yoga training requirement for teachers.
Each lecture integrates explanation with contextual considerations, analysis with experiential learning, to stimulate your creativity and empower you to create “your version” of a “sequencing strategy.” Each lecture is then followed by a movement-based yoga class that embodies that theory and supports your learning. As we journey through strategy and range(s) of practice, we simultaneously dive into teaching and pedagogical methods, applied anatomy, pose knowledge, motor skills learning, yoga philosophy and mythology, use of props, and movement regression and progression techniques.
Sequencing Strategies Overview
About this class:
This lecture style session provides an overview of sequencing strategies, sets up a context of understanding these various approaches, and lays the groundwork of important questions and considerations for planning every class. We consider the range of types of classes and sequencing strategies, such as alignment, vinyasa, peak pose, focus pose, postural category, anatomical body region classes, energetic quality theme, philosophical teaching theme, mythic story theme and more.
When planning a class, engage the following questions and considerations:
• What do I want to accomplish in this class?
• What are my goals and objectives?
• How long is class? What type of class and what level is it on the schedule?
• Students’ interests; athletes, engineers, philosophers and poets
• What are your expectations of the students’ abilities and prior knowledge?
• How many students do you expect? How will you set up the room?
• Predictability Vs. creativity in your sequence
• Arc of sequence for any one class, and sequencing for a month of classes

How To Create Full Spectrum Sequences
About this class:
This session takes a deep dive into full spectrum sequencing strategies to create well-rounded movement classes that includes poses from most or all of the postural categories. From one point of view, a well-rounded class should include all the movements of the spine; neutral, flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation + an inversion. Explore a sequencing template for these classes that can be adapted for many uses, and how every category is an accordion where you could include more poses, or less, and how categories can change places. Consider various definitions of inversions and where to put them in the sequence. Explore characteristics of warms ups and how even your seated centering pose can be significant. This session will help you create well-rounded classes that appropriately challenge your students.

Deconstruct To Reconstruct: Pose Based Sequencing
About this class:
This session takes a deep dive into pose based sequencing. With Trikonasana as the primary example, learn methods that can be adapted to ANY pose in ANY class. What is the standard version of the pose? What is the most straightforward entry and exit into/out of the pose? What other versions and transitions are commonly practiced for this pose? Consider how every version of the pose may result in some aspects of the pose becoming more accessible, while other aspects become more difficult, how might you regress (decrease difficulty) the pose for students with limited mobility (or other limitations), and how you might progress (increase difficulty) for more experienced students. Awaken your creativity with prop use and sharpen your analysis of relevant key actions. Analyze what structures need to be lengthened/stretched for the pose, and what other structures need to be shortened/strengthened. Consider strategies of repetition of poses in your sequence to build familiarity and increase awareness.
Instructor: Noah Mazé
Anatomical Body Region Sequencing
About this class:
Explore a more technical approach of anatomical body region sequencing in this session. Using the region of pelvis and hip as an example, we review anatomical structures and kinesiological movements of these regions, engage considerations and strategies to create a yoga class sequence to explore this region, while considering how to optimize the relationship of mobility and stability in these structures. Learn more ways to use props to create activation skills and drills for specific muscles and key actions. This session will help to increase your pose knowledge and applied anatomy and give you practical skills and methods to translate your technical knowledge into yoga and movement classes. Prop list: socks, strap, resistance band
Instructor: Noah Mazé
Focus Pose Sequencing
About this class:
This Focus Pose Sequencing session will sharpen the inquiry you bring to fundamental poses and give you more tools to teach “hard work in basic poses.” The premise is that fundamental poses are neither easy nor basic; they are complex, and no matter how familiar a pose is, there is always more that can be appreciated, explored, clarified and refined. Further, the more familiar it is, the more we might simply include the pose in the sequence, even taking it for granted and practicing it habitually with less awareness. We consider how every pose has multiple interpretations and expressions and may be performed differently in different styles/lineages of modern postural yoga. Rather than argue that there is a “right” way to do the pose, we embrace the diversity of these possibilities and bring deeper inquiry into the multiplicity of possibilities. Specifically, we analyze multiple versions and details of Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose), clarify WHAT is happening in each version, assess the difficulties and the necessary key actions, and consider reasons WHY we might include that version and HOW to skillfully teach it.

Vinyasa Sequencing
About this class:
This lecture and experiential session dives into all things vinyasa and give you many potent and practical strategies to integrate into your vinaysa classes. We investigate what vinyasa is, how to skillfully marry breath with dynamic movement, balance choreography with alignment, and adjust the ratio of predictable and familiar vinyasa sequencing with creativity. Noah explains his vinyasa sequencing template, shares his goals with each section, explains his strategies of how each section consciously uses repetition of what was previously established, and how he adds new/more poses and movements into the mix. Consider how to strategically work peak poses into your vinyasa sequence, skillfully preparing them for these more difficult elements, while maintaining the continuous mind/body awareness of a flow state AND building momentum to an overall peak, then use the closing poses to balance things out and move towards the serenity of relaxation.
Instructor: Noah Mazé

Theme Based Sequencing: Rasa Theory
About this class:
This session explores theme-based approaches to sequencing yoga classes, and how any/every type of yoga class, from alignment to vinyasa and beyond, can also include a theme. This session introduces rasa (essence, taste, flavor, juice) theory, how every experience is filled with rasa, and as we become more aware of the predominant rasa(s) of the experience, the teacher can consciously facilitate a particular feeling/mood theme throughout class, while allowing every student to have their own experience. Further, we consider how each section of a sequence is filled with rasa and how the rasa might be different in centering, in sun salutations, in standing poses, handststands etc. There are many ways to theme; sometimes a theme is your starting point for the creation of a class, and from there you decide what poses best embody this theme. At other times you might start your planning with a peak pose and choose to weave a theme into the sequence to complement and support the experience.
Instructor: Noah Mazé
Theme Based Sequencing: Mythology & Symbolism
About this class:
This theme-based session explores a variety of themeing methods and sources and ways to churn themes through a process of creating deeper connections and authenticity. We consider how to approach and integrate themes into a single yoga class, into a series of classes or workshops, into yoga retreats and more. The realms of thematic inspiration and content are immense; there are 3,500 years of yoga philosophy, 5,000+ years of mythology, symbols and their interpretations, the names of yoga poses, as well as inspiration from life experience, social and cultural realms of experience, as well as the natural world. Noah explores some of the symbolism and possible interpretations of the iconic image of Shiva Nataraja to offer examples of possible themes that could be integrated into a Natarajasana peak pose class.
Instructor: Noah Mazé
Theme Based Sequencing: Yoga Philosophy
About this class:
We continue our theme based teaching explorations with a focus on using teachings of yoga philosophy, such as Patanjali’s Yogasutras, as thematic sources for yoga classes. We consider the importance of considering the historical and cultural context, and the underlying metaphysical assumptions of various yoga philosophical traditions, and whether we are interpreting and practicing these teachings from their historical context and traditional understanding, or whether we are re-interpreting the teachings from a different perspective.

“I completed my RYS 200 training online with the Mazé School due to COVID. This was the first online training they've ever done, but you wouldn't know it. The sheer amount of recorded material blew me away. I was so impressed with the wealth knowledge that they shared with us and their dedication to their students’ learning. It is clear these are teachers’ teachers and they have dedicated their lives to the practice of yoga…. I would recommend this program for anyone who wants to dive deep into study, and who resonates with more alignment and structured flow based yoga classes. I will forever be appreciative to the Mazé School for the knowledge they worked so hard to empowered me with!" - Makenna Johnstone
“Very informative. I really enjoyed how the teacher broke down the different structures and then illustrated how they work together in asanas.” - Carrie Menke
“Great content, presentation style, level of info. Lots to dig into further. Enough meat to keep me going back to this to learn more and more and so well put together and presented.” - Andrew Nathan
“For me this was a wonderful way to get training. I could go at my own pace & review as necessary. The delivery method is efficient. And Noah is the most inspiring teacher I’ve ever had. Thank you.” - Rochelle Wilson
“Noah and team…WOW…GREAT work with this webinar offering. I am impressed withal that you have put together. This must have been a LOT of work, so KUDOS!!!!!” - Jennie Pearl
“Thank you, Noah and Team for connecting the World of Yoga Teachers and Students together. After watching each webinar, I feel a sense of satisfaction on every level, from validation of what I do already know from both past and current study”– Rena Chase
“ I’d like to thank you and the team for putting together such an amazing course. I was offered a scholarship and would have been unable to afford the full cost at this time so the opportunity to do this is such a blessing and I’m immeasurably grateful.” - Patrice
“Your online courses are awesome! I [participate in] online courses with many other teachers, and I find that your courses offer way more resources, seem to be exceptionally current – rather than pre-planned, and relate to our interaction and feedback (where you use threads from each week). [It is] truly inspiring, captivating and engaging, as well as encouraging, to learn more and to give more to our students and ourselves. After all, we are our own biggest students. I am so enthralled by your teaching, I wish I could do everything!” - Michelle Cross
“I enrolled in courses for my non contact hours in yoga teacher training. I received a wealth of knowledge and feel that both courses have really enriched my yoga education. The instructors taught the courses in an informative, easy to understand way with time for interaction with the students taking the class. I corresponded to get my certificates upon completion easily. Great staff and courses, I highly recommend!” - Alyssa Kyle
“Your attention to detail on the slides is fantastic. It’s almost like I’m back at Kripalu in your workshop. Thanks again.” - Juliánna Nagy
“I wanted to write and let you know how much I thoroughly enjoyed taking the online course. I live in the Caribbean and have been teaching yoga full time for five years. It is hard to attend trainings due to my location, so when I found this course online I was excited! Over the past three years I have taught workshops but always felt like I was on the right track however I still felt like I wanted/needed something more. The tools that you presented have given me complete confidence in my teaching. I came to the realization that I was giving WAY too much information, too many details. Once I simplified, it was like I was speaking another language. I just wanted to say thank you from my heart and know what you do is appreciated! I look forward to more trainings with you in the future.” - Danielle Gentilcore
“I got the chance to watch the first two sessions of this online course this morning. Everything was so clear and well thought out, including the theory of the second class. I taught two yoga sessions today and caught myself engaged in more [ways than normal]. That was pleasant. The most striking part so far was that I felt more confident in experimenting with new adjustments, both me and my fellow yoginis benefited from that. Thank you! Off to watch the third session now that my little one is in bed.” - Anonymous
“Compliments to Noah and his team for putting together excellent materials. Even though I am a certified yoga teacher, I feel it’s always good to go back with a beginner’s mind and learn again. These trainings (Art of Sequencing, Fundamentals of Teaching Yoga Poses, and 101) are very high quality and I am excited to ‘sharpen the saw’ through them.” - Olin Levitt
“Although this online class is my first encounter with you as a teacher, I’ve already learned a lot, and am enjoying the course very much. I’m quite a new teacher, and hope to remain a student for as long as I can breathe, and in that regard, every bit of information you happen to share during the class or on the discussion group, adds up to my investment of knowledge. I also like reading about others’ experiences and views (sometimes it proves how little I know, sometimes it shows me I’m not so bad either) for each word towards learning is valuable for me.” - Zeynep Yeldan
“I really appreciate how this course is aligning with what is happening in my life as a yoga teacher. I am teaching a 5 week series for the first time and just this week I was offered 3 classes to introduce meditation and deep stretching. It is awesome to be learning with Noah, each week I have so much to take away.” - Jennifer Adi
“Thank you, Noah and Team for connecting the world of yoga teachers and students together. After watching each webinar, I feel a sense of satisfaction on every level, from validation of what I do already know from both past and current study.” - Anonymous
“Loving the idea of building on the shapes. It makes sense – I just never actually simplified it enough to think of it that way.” - Lanessa Giesbrecht
